 This is a crown

Crowns will need to be done for different reasons :

1. Fractured teeth that cannot be restored with fillings.

2. Following root canal treatment to protect and restore a broken down tooth.

3. To improve the appearance of an unsightly tooth.

At the first appointment, the tooth is trimmed down to shape to make it smaller. This allows the technician in the laboratory enough space to make the crown. Then an impression is taken of the top and bottom rows of teeth.

A temporary crown is placed on the tooth whilst the crown is being made.

On the second appointment the temporary crown is removed and the new crown is attached to the tooth with a bonding cement.

The permanent crown will be made of either all porcelain, all metal (gold) or a combination of the two (bonded crown) depending on the situation of the tooth in the mouth and the load on it.
