     This is a bridge.

The teeth on either side of the space are prepared in the same way as for a crown and impressions are sent to the laboratory. A temporary bridge is put on the teeth whilst the bridge is being made.

On the second appointment (about two weeks later), the temporary bridge is removed and the new bridge is attached with a dental bonding cement.

Bridges can also be put over implants in the same way. Bridges are usually made of all porcelain (front teeth) or the combination of metal and porcelain - bonded porcelain (side or back teeth), as used for single crowns.

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth where there is a natural tooth (or an implant) on either side of the gap.
